Our work
The Applied Plant Ecology & Conservation Lab is located in the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Center for Conservation & Sustainable Development. Our work is motivated by the desire to save species threatened with extinction and reverse ecological degradation caused by human activities.
Our research uses observational field studies and manipulative experiments to better understand the population dynamics of threatened plants, and the abiotic and biotic barriers to restoring biodiversity in degraded ecosystems. |
We work primarily in temperate grasslands and woodlands of the Southeastern United States, a region rich with rare and endemic plant species. We collaborate with students, private partners, state and federal agencies, and university scientists throughout the region to develop solutions to conservation problems. Most projects include a mix of applied research and on-the-ground conservation activities (seed-banking, reintroduction, and habitat restoration), typically with the most globally imperiled plant species in the region.
